Celebration of the United Nation Day

Lagos – United Nations marks 66th anniversary of the entry into force of the UN Charter since 1945.
24 October has been celebrated as the United Nations Day since 1948.

In commemoration of the United Nations Day 24 October 2011, The United Nations Information Centre paid an educational visit to Sea Gate College, Apapa Lagos.

No fewer than thirty- eight Students, 10 Teachers and the Principal were in attendance.

Activities for the day comprised Film Screening, Question and Answer Session.

The students were shown videos on “The United Nations working for us all” and the World Humanitarian day 2011 video – ‘If I can make a change’.

The Officer- In – Charge, United Nations Information Centre Lagos Mr. Charles Nosa Osazuwa took the students through the significance of such a day and tutored them on the activities of the United Nations. He welcomed questions from the students and answered them accordingly.

The Library Assistant Mrs. Olajumoke Araba, went through the powerpoint presentation of UN4U 2011 with the students as well as introduced them to the CyberSchoolbus, the United Nations website for young people and teachers.

The visit to the Centre ended with vote of thanks from the Consultant of the School Mrs. Ogunkoya, presentation of book materials to the school as well as mounting of the United Nations flag at the premises of the school.
