Report On World Environment Day

Lagos – United Nation World Environment Day is commemorated annually on the 5th of June and to observe this event, the United Nations Information Centre, Lagos Nigeria organized an event on June 7, 2011 in collaboration with the Nigerian Environmental Society and CFAO-NIPEN Group.

The event was attended by one hundred and fifteen participants including students from secondary schools in Lagos, representatives from the State and Federal Ministries of Environment, Non Governmental Organizations and Civil Societal Organizations.

The statement of United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-Moon, for the 2011 World Environment Day was presented by the Officer in Charge of the United Nations Information Centre, Lagos, Mr. Charles Nosa Osazuwa.

Mrs. Bola Odunsi, Chief Environmental Scientist, Forestry at the Federal Ministry of Environment gave a lecture on “Forests – Nature at Your Service” which is this year’s United Nation’s theme for the Day and the Green Ambassador for Lagos State & Former Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria, Miss Omowunmi Akinnifesi spoke on her experiences and encouraged all the youth present to participate in protecting the environment.
